1. What is the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame?

The Barclays WSL Hall of Fame recognises and honours the league’s biggest contributors on the pitch across players, officials and coaches. Celebrating those who have taken the Barclays WSL to its strongest ever position, the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame will be the highest individual honour the league can offer. The Barclays WSL Hall of Fame will exist online with content and assets dedicated to honouring and celebrating those who have been inducted.

2. How many people will be inducted into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame?

In 2021, the Barclays WSL will welcome four inductees. From then on, three individuals will be inducted on a yearly basis.

3. Who is deciding who will be inducted into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame?

There is a dedicated selection panel made up of pioneers of the women’s game who decide who will be inducted into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame. Chaired by Kelly Simmons OBE, The FA’s Director of the Women’s Professional Game, the selection panel is made up of former players, coaches and officials, alongside journalists. Full details can be found on the selection panel page.

4. What are the selection criteria for the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame?

The following criteria has been set to help guide the selection panel on their inductee nominations:

  • Players – To have played at least three years in the Barclays Women’s Super League and to have had a significant impact on the league whether as a trophy winner, leader, or outstanding individual performer. Must be retired from playing as of September 2021.
  • Coaches – To have coached in the league for at least three years OR to have won a league title. To have made a significant impact on the league whether through triumph in the competition, or the development of young talent.

5. Does this mean fans cannot vote for their inductees?

Currently, fans are not permitted to vote in the inductee process of the Barclays WSL. However, we would encourage fans to share their favourite moments of the inductees across social media.

6. Will fans get the chance to vote?

There are currently no plans to give fans the vote of inductees, however, this may change year on year.

7. Does this mean people who are not inducted will automatically be on future shortlists?

No, not necessarily. Some players, coaches and officials may retire before the next inductee event, meaning they will become eligible to be inducted and therefore provide more options for the selection panel in the future.

8. Will members of the selection panel be able to be inducted in the future?

Yes, there will be an option in coming years for members of the selection panel to be inducted. In the event the panel voted in favour of an individual to be inducted, they would be released from the panel and inducted into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame.

9. When will the next individuals be inducted?

The next set of inductees will be unveiled in 2022.

Barclays are the lead sponsor of the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support and investment in the Barclays WSL and its relevant campaigns.

The Barclays WSL Hall of Fame will exist online rather than a physical presence. The National Football Museum Hall of Fame celebrates the entire history of English football and the English football pyramid.

12. Will the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame be displayed in person?

The plans are for the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame to be kept online, however, there may be future discussions to present it physically.
